Celebrating Janet Eicke!
Janet Eicke Retiring June 3, 2024
After 24 years of service to the University of Northern Iowa, and over 17 years in the Office of the Registrar, Janet Eicke is retiring!
Janet’s time at UNI began as a student employee at Print Services located in the Physical Plant building west of Hudson Road. After only a month as a student employee she secured a fulltime staff position there. She worked at Print Services until budget cuts caused her to take a ¾ time clerical position at Camp Adventure, which was located in a campus owned house on 32nd Street. Janet joined the Office of the Registrar in 2006 at a time when the office was temporarily relocated to the lower level of Maucker Union after being displaced by the Gilchrist fire.
Throughout her time at UNI Janet has regularly parked off campus and has thoroughly enjoyed her walks to and from Gilchrist Hall each day, during which she has come to appreciate UNI’s beautiful campus landscape and the variety of birds and animals that make the campus their home. She has spotted baby deer, eagles, hawks, possums, and a variety of birds in addition to numerous rabbits and the ever- present squirrels!
If you ask her what she has enjoyed most about her time at UNI Janet will tell you she has loved interacting with upbeat students who keep the campus alive. She has also been proud to work with faculty, staff, and administrators who take the time to intervene when students need assistance. After retiring from UNI Janet is looking forward to traveling, downsizing, and visiting family and friends, especially her five grandchildren who range from age 1 – 12 with a sixth one on the way in September!
We are grateful for the impact Janet has had at UNI and in our office, and the many lives she touched along the way. Although Janet has chosen to forego a formal retirement party, please join us in wishing her a heartfelt congratulations on her retirement and thanking her for her many years of service to UNI!
