How to Withdraw from the Semester

  • Prior to the first billing for the term: You can withdraw online in your Student Center
  • After the start of the term, complete a Withdrawal Form and submit it to the Office of the Registrar at 115 Gilchrist Hall or registrar@uni.edu from your UNI email address. Forms from personal email addresses will not be accepted.
    • A grade will be assigned for the course, if applicable, following the deadlines listed above and published in the Schedule of Classes
  • Withdraw AFTER the deadline: If you wish to retroactively drop a course, complete an Academic Student Request online through your MyUNIverse. Requests to drop after the deadline require extenuating circumstances and approval:
    • Extenuating Circumstances: Withdrawal from the University with a "W" for ALL courses after the deadline in the Schedule of Classes to withdraw without an "F"
      • This request type is used if you experienced extenuating circumstances and are seeking to drop with a “W” after dropping or receiving an “F” grade.
      • If you did not attend, indicate in the "Justification" section that you are seeking to withdraw without a "W" after the deadline.

Refunds for Withdrawals

  • If credit is earned during a period of enrollment, there is no refund of academic fees for that period.
  • Students who withdraw completely from all of their classes prior to the first day of instruction for a semester will not pay any tuition for that semester. If any tuition has been paid, it will be refunded in full. After university instruction begins for a semester, tuition charges or refunds will be made in accordance with the schedule set forth in the withdrawal schedules.
  • For any one-, two-, or three-week session, there is no refund after the course begins.
  • Room and board refunds are made according to the agreement set out in the Contract for Housing and Dining signed by the student at the time of enrollment.
  • Additionally, it is recommended that students contact the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships pertaining to Withdrawing and Dropping from Courses.
  • The effective date of the withdrawal is the date the official Withdrawal Form is completed in the Office of the Registrar.
  • Tuition & Fees Refund Policy
  • Extenuating Circumstances:
    • Exceptions to the tuition and fees policy as stated above will be considered for extenuating circumstances. Students should fill out and submit an Extenuating Circumstances Tuition and Fees Refund Request and provide documentation of the extenuating circumstance with the completed form to the Office of the Registrar. The Tuition Refund Review Committee will review the application and determine whether or not any additional refund will be made. The committee is comprised of representatives from the Office of the Registrar, Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, Dean of Students Office, the Office of Business Operations, and Academic Affairs.

Summer Session Withdrawal Refunds

  • Find the date of your withdrawal on the various session refund schedules.
  • If you are enrolled in multiple sessions, your refund will follow the schedule for each session in which you are enrolled.
    • Examples:
      1. If you are enrolled in one eight-week class and one mid-June/July six-week class and you withdraw from school on June 25, you would receive a 75 percent refund for your mid-June/July six-week class and no refund for your eight-week class.
      2. If you are enrolled in a May four-week class and a mid-June/July six-week class and you withdraw from school on June 15, you would receive no refund for your May four-week class and a full refund for your mid-June/July six-week class.
  • As a general rule, if you withdraw from a session in which you are registered since classes have begun for that session, you will be assessed some percentage of the total tuition for that session. If you withdraw from a session in which you are registered prior to classes beginning for that session, you will be accorded a full refund of tuition for that session.
  • Workshop fee is not refundable after the workshop class has begun.
  • Students receiving financial aid should visit with a counselor in the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships about how dropping a class and/or withdrawing totally from school will impact your financial aid award.
