Holds and Service Indicators

Holds and service indicators are used for a variety of reasons. Many are informative to assist in advising and student support resources while some may prevent registration until the requirements of the hold has been met.

Continue below for a listing of the most common holds, their requirements, and who to contact with questions or concerns.

Note: This list includes some of the most common Holds and Service Indicators, but is not a comprehensive list.

This hold prevents registration and indicates a student needs to meet with the assigned Academic Advisor to have the hold removed prior to registering for courses. Advisor contact information available in the Student Center. After logging into MyUNIverse and clicking on the "My Page" tab, click on the "Go to My Student Center" link. Within Student Center, locate the box titled "Advisor" along the right-hand side of the screen.

The following students registering for their second semester at UNI will receive Advising Holds and should contact their Academic Advisor to have the hold lifted:

Admissions: Undergraduate Admissions, International Admissions or Graduate Admissions

These service indicators typically indicate additional action needs to occur or documentation needs to be submitted to complete the admissions process. Registration is prevented for subsequent terms. Please contact the Office of Admissions at 319-273-2281 or email admissions@uni.edu.

Extension and/or Guided Independent Study

This service indicator prevents registration and indicates a student is limited to registering for Extension and/or Guided Independent Study classes through the Office of Continuing and Distance Education only. Registration in other classes requires an application for admission as a degree seeking student.  Please contact the Office of Continuing Education at 319-273-7211 or at continuinged@uni.edu.

MMR (Measles/Mumps/Rubella)

This service indicator prevents registration. Documentation of your vaccinations against measles/mumps and rubella is required. Please contact the Student Health Center or call 319-273-2009.  More information is available at this website: https://health.uni.edu/requirements

Perkins

This hold indicates you are in financial arrears repaying your Perkins loan. Registration is prevented. Please contact 319-273-6441 or email student.accounts@uni.edu.

Registrar

This service indicator may be placed by the Office of the Registrar for a variety of reasons. Registration is prevented. Please contact the Office of the Registrar at 319-273-2241 or registrar@uni.edu for specific details.

Past Due U-Bill & Other Student Account Holds

This hold prevents registration and indicates there is an outstanding financial balance due to the University. Please contact Business Operations at 319-273-2164 or student.accounts@uni.edu.

Student Athlete Drop Hold

Due to NCAA requirements, student athletes with this hold must work with their athletic academic advisor prior to dropping courses. This hold prevents drop and withdrawal transactions only. Please contact your athletic academic advisor in Athletics Administration.

Suspension

This hold indicates you are currently on academic suspension from the University.  Registration is prevented. To inquire about this status or to apply for readmission, undergraduate students should contact the Office of the Registrar at 319-273-2241 or registrar@uni.edu. Graduate students should contact the Graduate College, Lang Hall 110, 319-273-2748.

Terms and Conditions

This hold indicates that you have not yet completed your U-bill Terms and Conditions Task. Initial enrollment and adding of classes is prevented. Please contact Business Operations at 319-273-2164 or student.accounts@uni.edu.

Academic Alert OR Academic Probation

These informational service indicators are placed on the records of student on Academic Alert or Academic Probation due to academic performance. These holds do not prevent registration and are only removed at the end of the term if your academic status changes. Please contact the Office of the Registrar at 319-273-2241 or registrar@uni.edu.

Accessibility
