Standard Class Meeting Times Policy
The following policy on Standard Class Meeting Times (SCMT) will be enforced by the Office of the Registrar for all academic departments.
Courses that deviate from the above schedule will be restricted to being offered at 2:00 p.m. or later.
Any request for a variance in standard class meeting times must be made in writing through your collegiate Dean, who will provide a recommendation on the request, and then they will forward the request on to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost for a final decision. Please use the Request for Variance Form. A request for variance must clearly articulate why such a variance should be approved. If the request is approved, the department will submit the form with ALL approval signatures, along with their class schedule, to the Office of the Registrar. Please note that a variance form is required every term for any courses falling outside of the Standard Class Meeting Times. It is important to note that it is not guaranteed that a course approved for a variance in prior terms will be approved for a present or future term.
Classroom priority will be given to courses that follow the Standard Class Meeting Time policy. Should an academic department submit courses that do not follow the Standard Class Meeting Times policy, and/or if a department fails to obtain and submit a Request for Variance Form to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Office of the Registrar will not list the course in the Schedule of Classes.
The Office of the Registrar is asked to enforce the policy that courses meeting during the 3:00-5:00 p.m. time period on Monday must be included when submitting courses. Use the Request for Variance form for courses meeting during 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Mondays, only Deans' approval is required (i.e., there is no need to seek approval from the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President). When these approvals do not accompany the submitted schedule, the process is delayed and puts us at risk of being unable to meet deadlines that will ensure timely distribution of the Schedule of Classes to Students.
